Introduction

To tackle the issue of stigma and low visibility towards transgender individuals in Taiwan, I created a website that aims to educate and provide comprehensive information about the transgender community. My goal is to bridge the gap between ignorance and understanding, which can help individuals embrace their true self-identity.

To achieve this, I created articles that cover three crucial aspects of the transgender community:

  1. The History of Transgender: This section features various stories and experiences of individuals with different gender identities, including intersex, cross-dressers, drag queens, and others. The content is compiled from personal autobiographies and scholarly publications to provide a deep understanding of the background and events that shape their lives.
  2. Transgender Knowledge 101: This section aims to provide readers with a transparent road map to transition, including the experiences of different individuals, medical research, guidelines, and relevant laws and regulations in Taiwan. The goal is to equip readers with sufficient information to evaluate if transition is suitable for them and what they need to be aware of post-transition.
  3. Transgender News and Topics: This section covers current issues and human rights conditions for transgender individuals worldwide, many of which are not widely discussed in Taiwan. Topics include the impact of hormone blockers, legal disputes surrounding it, and the difficulties faced by trans fathers giving birth.

Result

The website has been operating for over 2 years, with over 100,000 reading times, and has a stable monthly traffic. Currently, several transgender-related Chinese keywords rank in the top three.

My Social advocacy efforts

In addition to building a website, I am also actively involved in many offline transgender-related activities and social advocacy efforts. I am a proud transman and have been inspired by the many individuals I have met on my journey towards embracing my true self-identity.

As a result, I have become an advocate for the trans community and a dedicated volunteer for social equality movements. I have participated in various events, including fundraising dinners, gender education camps, and transgender marches, using every opportunity to raise my voice for the gender minority. I am also an active member in gender-focused NGOs in Taipei, and we are currently launching a program where we can serve as guest lecturers in schools. Our goal is to share our stories with students and educate them about what it means to be a transgender person.

I firmly believe in the saying, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." I feel empowered when I am part of these events and movements, knowing that even though we may be excluded as a minority, we can still make a difference and influence society's perception of us.

Let’s make something together, say hi.
